Trip Reports for 2024 Season

Lake Tahoe Heavenly 2024
Jan 27-Feb 3 The club trip to Heavenly ski area in at South Lake Tahoe CA was a great success. First three days of skiing were extremely warm (hi 40's to low 50's) bright and sunny day We skied primarily on the Nevada side of Heavenly Sunday and Monday since the elevation was higher there than on the California side. The snow at higher elevation was more skiable and less spring-skiing-like. Then Tuesday we took a bus over to Northstar ski area and skied in the same warm conditions there. Eight NPSC members banned together and did the EPSC organized "Selfie Scavenger Hunt." We had eight questions about Northstar and we had to ski to the location/answer and take a selfie of yourself in front of the sign, lift or lodge. Then we turned in our 8 selfies at the Banquet Wednesday night and received 8 playing card. Those tied with the same number of correct answers had to make the best poker hand with 5 of the cards to break the tie. We did not win but thoroughly enjoyed traipsing all over the Northstar ski area. It even encouraged us to do Washoe which had a very steep head wall and a long steep slope down to a private ski camp called Matis camp. You can check out our "Northstar Scavenger Hunt Selfies" (actually group photos) in the Photo Albums.
Wednesday the weather turned more seasonal, running  22-38 degrees and the skiing continued at Heavenly.

Heavenly Trip Cont'd Wednesday night was the EPSC banquet, and because of the Heavenly venue the theme was "Angels and Demons" for the costumes. You can see photos below (and in the Photo Albums) from the banquet, the costume contest and the DJ dancing that ensued. A storm blew in Wednesday night continuing Thursday and Friday and dumped 12 in of snow at the north end of the lake. Some club members went on the bus to Kirkwood ski area and skied the deep powder snow on Thursday. The majority of club members remained to ski in the 12-28 deg Thursday and Friday with snowy weather which provided 2-4 inches of fresh snow each day, great skiing. We all got used to strolling through Harvey's Casino on the way to and from the Heavenly gondola on the way to skiing and on the way back. And after a week of skiing we finally understood the crumby sign pointing the way to the Gondola and the lower Nevada areas.
. The club had a private party Thursday at Joe's Bar in Harvey's Casino, Saturday club members bid farewell to South Lake Tahoe for the bus to get us to the airport 2 hours before our flight back to Philly. Unfortunately, a snow storm in Denver clogged up the airlines. We ended u spending 1 night in Reno, then flying to Denver Sunday where some of us made it home on a red-eye. Others ended up staying another night in Denver before finally getting home Monday. Some people did not get home until a little past midnight Tuesday morning. Everything went off so smoothly on this fantastic trip until the trip home. The airlines ended up giving us vouchers for the hotel rooms and $30 per day for food. Everyone thanks, Laura our trip leader, for her diligence coordinating with the airlines for our flights and vouchers.

Val Gardena Dolomites Italy 2024- North Penn Ski Club had a group of 25 at Val Gardena from March 1-9,2024.  The week featured a variety of conditions from warm and slushy to beautiful blue-bird days to fresh show accompanied by white out conditions.  The views were incredible and the guides that Elysha Thompson arranged for us were wonderful.  Amazing to ski from town to town with so many lifts, gondolas, trams, slopes to choose from AND many lovely rifugios (refuges/mountain cabins) to grab a bite or a meal and beverages at.  Hotel Oswald had a typical quaint European vibe and fantastic meals.  A 3 day pre-trip to Venice was very much enjoyed by 19 of the group.  Thanks to Dave Schoneker for setting the trip up and Pete Ryan for running it!
See the Val Gardena Photo Album for pictures from this amazing experience.

Vermont Trips-

Often members get together for for trips to Vermont, NH, and/or Maine.

Many of our members attended the 70+ Skiers Club Okemo trip the first week of January. Quite a few were under 70 years of age. Many of NPSC women got together for a Stratton trip in January.
